Employment: Position Open

Teacher, Special Education

Description of Duties and Responsibilities:

Initiates and maintains contact with appropriate school personnel to inform them that a pupil has been accepted into the program, identify the school's contact person; secure pupil's assignments and educational material from the school; and establish procedures for reporting attendance and grades.

Provide daily classroom and individual tutorial instruction to program participants.

Maintains attendance and academic performance records to be reported to the pupil's school according to the school's reporting system and time period. Notifies the school of the pupil's termination from the program.

Assist the pupil in making a smooth academic transition when he/she returns to school.

Provides supervision and monitoring of clients during other scheduled activities throughout the day, as assigned.

Assist in the development and provide supervision of volunteer tutors for the aftercare phase of the treatment program. 

Communicates with other members of staff continuously about significant behavior of all clients.  Is observant of client behavior.  Documents all contacts with clients and participates in client case review.

Attends meetings, in-service training, and professional meetings as directed.

Supervisory Relations:

Directly reports to the Clinical Director, and general technical supervision of the Certified Chemical Dependency Counselors. 

Skills and Knowledge Required:

Through working knowledge of special education methods, practice and procedures specifically to Learning Disabled or Severe Behaviorally Handicapped Adolescents.  Ability to plan, provide and evaluate academic materials and progress of client working with and Individual Educational Plan Model.

Prior Experience Required:

Two years prior teaching experience.

Educational Background Required:

BS / MS and Ohio Certification (current) in SBH & LD or Special Education.

Amount of Travel:

Local, within county on a regular basis; occasional out of county may be requested.

In-Home Family Therapist

Counselor needed to provide in-home family therapy to chemically dependent adolescents and their families within Cuyahoga County. The successful applicant will receive training in the SAMHSA recognized Multi Dimensional Family Therapy (MDFT) model of in-home therapy.  This is a very exciting opportunity to get in on the ground floor of a cutting edge therapy.  Typical caseload of 5 to 9 clients is anticipated.  Therapist will be part of a team providing in-home services.

We are looking for a Master's level clinician, and prefer a candidate with family therapy job experience or internship. Compensation varies by experience level.  Full time professional position, competitive salary, benefits, EOE.

Case Manager

Case Manager needed for new in-home family therapy program based on the SAMHSA recognized MDFT therapy model. The successful applicant will receive intensive training in the SAMHSA recognized Multi Dimensional Family Therapy (MDFT) model of in-home therapy, provided by the model developers.

The case manager will be part of a team providing in-home therapy to chemically dependent adolescent and their families. Case Managers will identify community resources; problem-solve client access to those resources, coordinate with agencies and schools, and help monitor client progress. This is a very exciting opportunity to get in on the ground floor of a cutting edge therapy.

We are looking for a Bachelor's Level applicant or Master's Degree in-progress. The ideal application will be dedicated to serving adolescent clients; have a strong work ethic and be self-motivated. Start date is June 15, 2006. Compensation varies by experience level. Part-time preferable with possibility of full-time, professional position.

Substance Abuse Prevention Specialist

Counselor to work in elementary, middle and high schools in the Cleveland area. Providing curriculum based education, leading to problem identification and referral and alternative for those clients in need of services.

Bachelor's in human services, with OCPS/C, or registered, required; Master's preferred. Experience working with students in a school setting, and their families and substance abuse prevention needed.

Chemical Dependency Counselor

To work with adolescent Chemical Dependency and Dual Diagnosis Day Treatment Programs.  Provides assessment, individual and group counseling, didactics, monitoring, and supervision to clients and education, group and individual counseling to families; along with necessary case management, planning and documentation.  Part of a multi-disciplinary team, supporting a therapeutic environment. 

Strong clinical skills, good written and verbal communication skills, commitment and flexibility needed to work with a challenging population.  Bachelor’s degree, Certified Chemical Dependency Counselor, and two years of paid experience with adolescents required. Master’s degree and LSW preferred.

Mental Health Counselor

Provides diagnostic, assessment, individual and group counseling to dually-diagnosed adolescents and families; and is an active member of a multi-disciplinary team providing integrated services in an outpatient, day treatment setting.

Strong clinical skills, solid knowledge base of mental health, chemical dependency, and adolescent development is essential. LISW/LPCC and experience with adolescents required. Certified Chemical Dependency Counselor preferred.

Early Childhood ATOD Intervention Specialist

Counselor to work with the Alcohol, Tobacco, and Other Drug (ATOD) Preschool Prevention Program of The Covenant, Inc. To work at urban day care and Headstart sites providing services to staff and caregivers, preschoolers, and their families. Duties include observation and evaluation of preschooler behavior, family ATOD education and intervention, consultation to staff and curriculum based activities.

BA in early childhood education, early childhood/special education, or child development. Master's and Prevention Certification preferred. Experience working with preschoolers and families and in substance abuse prevention desired.

Internships


The Covenant Inc. offers graduate internships for professionals seeking a field placement as part of developing a specialization in chemical dependency. Our multi-disciplinary team can supervise interns form Psychology, Social Work, and Counseling programs. Also, we can arrange internship experiences for individuals seeking credentials as a Chemical Dependency Counselor through the Ohio Credentialing Board.

All internships are on a voluntary basis (there is no compensation).
